Providing solar and wind projects with solutions to store and transport Renewable Energy

Renewable energy has been playing a major and increasingly important part in reducing global greenhouse gas emissions. The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) states that cheap electricity from renewable sources could provide 65 percent of the world’s total electricity supply by 2030. Moreover, it stated that such sources can potentially decarbonize 90 percent of the power sector by 2050. Such a massive reduction in carbon emissions can and should play a key role in substantially helping to mitigate climate change and the damage it has and is causing.

Historically, one of the greatest challenges to the renewable energy generation sector has been the intermittency of energy sources, for example, of the availability of adequate wind and sunlight, exacerbated by the difficulty and cost of safely storing and transporting power so produced over long distances. There are, however, viable solutions to these challenges: e.g., renewable electricity (electrons) can be converted and stored in the form of hydrogen (molecules) and transported to the point of use. And that is where H2-Industries´ technology comes into play.

Making Renewable Energy available when and where it is needed

H2-Industries´ technology can store renewable energy, at the production site, and, then, transport it safely and economically, to off-takers. In an integrated process, using electricity generated from solar and wind farms, energy is first converted into hydrogen using H2-Industries’ eSTORE technology. This clean hydrogen is then chemically bound in LOHC (Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier), which allows the renewable energy from solar and wind, now converted into hydrogen, to be stored in a medium which can be transported safely and economically to off-takers wherever located. At the off takers site the hydrogen can be released again from the LOHC using H2-Industries eRELEASE or H2RELEASE technologies, depending on whether electrical power of hydrogen is required.

H2-Industries’ storage- and transportation-technologies for Renewables Projects eSTORE and eRELEASE / H2RELEASE in combination with LOHC can be available to any renewable energy producer, requiring a safe, cost-effective solution to storing and transporting renewable energy, no matter whether the renewable energy project site has got grid-access.
